paleotechnics: material notes
Representing considerable research for historic accuracy, each piece is painstakingly handmade with the same materials used prehistorically, almost all of which I have personally harvested, in their native environments. The geological and plant-based materials are gathered selectively with conscientious consideration. The animal parts are salvaged from roadkill or kills made by hunters who eat what they harvest. I make every attempt to not use parts from animals that were exploited for the sole purpose of money or "sport".

I should also note that many of my finished pieces take on an older and used appearance naturally by simply using and handling outside. To facilitate this natural process, I will, on occasion, physically distress the areas that would naturally receive wear then add patina by polishing with earth and wild animal fats and blood...the very things the originals were exposed to. With effort, these pieces can be made to be nearly indistinguishable from those hundreds of years old.
