Escape the distractions of modernism and nourish
your soul with tranquility. See first hand how locally collected
reclaimed and natural materials can provide low impact and interesting
shelter. Enrich your knowledge of an area strong in natural phenomena
and early human activity. Rent an Earthen Exposure ski hut.
Small group parties or romantic getaway, this
hut is tucked away on private property little more than a stone's
throw from the groomed trails of the Craters
of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Tour the monument
by day, then snowshoe/ski to the hut that afternoon for a night
of solitude in rustic charm. With no elevation gain and a short
1.7-mile jaunt on the historic Goodale's
Cutoff, access is possible for a wide variety of enthusiasts.
Situated between the base of the Pioneer Mountains
and Great Rift, views are afforded in every direction. Three sides
are framed by the Pioneers; the forth is an open vista to ancient
volcanic cones.
Amenities provided (for
up to eight people):
- bunk beds with foam mattresses
- dining table & benches
- basic cookware, mugs, cups & eating
utensils
- wood stove & firewood for heat
- propane two-burner cooking stove
- propane lanterns
- enclosed outhouse with toilet paper
Guests only need to bring:
- sleeping bag
- food
- clothes
- personals
- first aid kit
Additional opportunities, right outside the
hut door, include novice to intermediate skiing and snowboarding;
sledding/tubing; and snowshoeing. The experience can be topped off
with a hotspring soak on your way home, just 10 miles down the road.
